Indianapolis Day 4

On our final day we went to the top of the war memorial and toured the civil war museum in the basement.



From the top we saw another cool looking monument a few blocks away and decided to go check it out too.  I'm glad we did.  It was another monument to all that have served in all the wars. 








Pictures don't even capture how pretty it was inside the main room, called the Shrine.  It was breathtaking, and moving.


Then we toured the museum in the basement, where each of the kids were able to learn new things about our country's history and those who have fought to defend it.  I made sure to teach them about their Great Grandpa Hariton driving a tank in WWII and Great Grandpa Noehren serving in the coast guard.  It was actually a really neat, unexpected teaching moment about the seriousness of war.

After the rain died down we walked down to the beautiful canals and went paddle boating.  Here is the brief moment where they chauffeured me around. 




We basically chased around two different groups of baby ducklings we found.  They were so cute!



We checked out our first ever IMAX movie about the flight of the monarch butterfly's.  It was awesome!

Dinner at Hard Rock wasn't nearly as cool as I was hoping - but oh well.  They scarfed it up just the same. 
We finished off the night with a late night swim where Haley perfected her hair whip.

Also, most nights before heading back to the hotel, the kids and I would sit on the monument stairs and just chat and watch people/cars driving by.  It was so fun to just hang out with two of my favorite peeps.  Who knew Indy was so awesome?  It was a great trip and a great way to kick off summer!

Science Center & Niagara Falls

Brian took this picture of a bridge competition that was going on at the conference center.  That is a lot of bridge players! While Brian was conferencing, we ventured out in our car to the Science Center across town.  It was awesome!  We loved the interactive displays and things to do.  It was way, way fun. This frog is the cutest, saddest, frog I've ever seen.  He was so adorable. Haley loves turtles! We tried some Pizza Pizza for lunch in the cafeteria.  Not bad! Aquarium & CN Tower

The next morning, we walked over to the Aquarium and beat the crowds.  It was a really cool aquarium - better than we expected.   Our favorite part was the tube that you could walk through.  This big sea creature was just sitting on the top of the tube.  It was so cool to check him out and to see all the sharks everywhere.  You really get a good look at all their crazy shark teeth when you are below them!   After lunch, we headed for an afternoon swim at the hotel pool. Then we headed over to St. Lawrence Market and met Brian for dinner.  I got fish and chips, Grant got homemade ravioli, Haley got chinese and Brian got perogies.  Everyone was happy!  It was fun to walk around the market. Dearborn, Michigan

On our way to another conference in Toronto, we stopped over outside of Detroit in Dearborn, Michigan - where the Ford headquarters are.  We stayed at the historic Dearborn Inn, which Henry Ford designed, and is now managed by Marriott, and went to the Henry Ford Museum.   There are tons of Ford factories, offices, test tracks and museums all over...but man, do they need to pave their roads!  They were full of potholes everywhere.  Poor Detroit/Dearborn.  Hopefully they can pave someday soon.   Brian and I had been to the museum before, but it has been over 20 years for me...and they had changed quite a bit.  It was fun to walk around and look at all of the neat cars, trains, airplanes and other equipment.    This is the original oscar myer hotdog mobile.   This is the actual bus - not a replica - of the bus in Montgomery Alabama where Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus.  Grant is sitting in her ...
