This summer is seriously flying by so fast! Here is a sampling of some of the stuff we've been up to this month... We started it out by going to the neighborhood 4th of July parade. They do it up right...horses, police segweys, fire trucks etc. Haley was bummed her scooter didn't win the prize in her age group. Who knew she was in it to win it? I told her next year we'd hit the dollar tree and go crazy with the red, white and blue. We can only hope the poor girl will be riding her bike without training wheels by then! Brian's sister Jenny came for a week visit and we had a blast going to a Legends game, seeing movies and hangin out. Thanks for coming all the way down here Aunt JJ! I also took the kids home to West Virginia while Brian was out in San Diego for his cousin's wedding and work stuff in LA. We went to the Morgantown kids day downtown and had some fun. Today, at roughly 5 pm, Brian and I will have been married for 10 years! I am forever grateful that Brian and I found each other. Life is certainly full of unexpected turns. Who would have guessed that I would marry a random old friend from the dorms 5 years after we first met? Who would have guessed that at exactly the right time in both of our lives our paths would cross again and we'd fall head over heals for each other? ...or that I'd move site unseen to Connecticut after I graduated while he finished up his masters? ...or that we'd move to Virginia on a whim just because we thought it was a neat place to live. ....or that we'd leave our jobs, house, and even a promotion, to go back to poverty for a Ph.D. just because it felt right? Who seriously would have guessed that we'd be in Kentucky with our 2 amazing kids...or that we'd actually love it so much here? Not me, that's for sure! I am so excited! Brian is mentioned by name in an 8 page article this month in Runners World!! Woo Hoo! Look in the August 2010 issue under the article Desperate Measures on page 96. Anything throughout the article about gait retraining is Brian's disertation research work and ironically enough this same part of his disertation came to press this month in the British Journal of Sports Medicine (here's the link to the online version http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2010/06/27/bjsm.2009.069112.short?q=w_bjsm_ahead_tab ). So, you can compare the lay-man's version to the scientific biomechanics version all at the same time - fun for hours, I'm sure. But seriously - I am so stinkin' proud of Brian. I know first hand how many hours he put into finding people for this study - let alone the gazillions of hours it took to collect their data, process the data and write it all up. It really is pretty neat stuff, if I do say so myself. The article in Runners World ...

We just got back from a fabulous 2 day camping adventure to Laurel Lake, Kentucky. Each year around the July 4th weekend we head out into the woods and this year's trip was one of our favorites yet! Perhaps having 2 potty trained children who can both walk fair distances without a stroller had something to do with it...but still! We started our adventure the right way...with a visit to the Colonel. The birthplace of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Corbin, KY was just a few towns away from where we were headed - so we thought we'd swing by. It's no Chick-fil-a, but for the sake of history we paid tribute. Come to find out - it isn't even the original KFC - just a rebuilt version. Oh well. Here's Brian with gettin' cozy with the Colonel. Then we headed out to Cumberland Falls. It was pretty cool! Then we set up camp at Holly Bay on Laurel Lake.
