Costa Maya, Mexico

We woke up in a new port, Costa Maya, Mexico and were excited to explore a new place for the day.  Unfortunately, it was very, very windy and our snorkeling from a catamaran excursion was cancelled due to safety. Instead of signing up for different excursion, we grabbed a taxi and headed to the local beach.

Although the beach was "free" to the public, restaurants had the entire beach lined with their little slice of beach with chairs, kayaks etc. for 'free' as long as you dined with them.  After walking up and down the sidewalk, we chose a little restaurant that seemed to have a nice beach set up.  The kids loved the hammocks and play set.

The water felt colder here, but was probably because of the winds.  The water was clear and beautiful, but there weren't as many fish.  We enjoyed spending most of the day playing in the sand and water, kayaking and relaxing in the warm sun.

This beach, like Roatan, was full of people walking up and down the beach selling things and asking if we wanted to buy massages or hair braiding.  I can still hear them "Hey, Lady...massage?  Hey lady...Hey Lady..."  I bought a magnet, and Grant was excited to buy a pair of sunglasses, official Mexican ray bans.  Hahaha.  He talked her down to $7 from $15.  He was a little sad and mostly confused when I told him they weren't real ray bans.

Brian reminded me that we didn't bring much cash off the boat because we were planning on being on our excursion and we needed to make sure we had enough to eat and get a taxi back.  Luckily - we had just enough left to do both with not even a dollar to spare.  Whew!  So, that was it for our shopping.  It would have been a long walk back to the boat!
We bought more Mexican coke - it really is the best!  And ate our fill of tacos and nachos.  It was all delicious!  They even brought us margaritas and when we declined and said we don't drink, they promised they were non-alcoholic and Haley slurped hers down.  It was like a fruity slushie.  I took a sip, but was mostly afraid of eating local ice (they warn you on the boat not to) and banned the rest of us from drinking it just in case.  Probably a little overkill, but better than diarrhea!

This is the day we realized our boat was little!
Costa Maya was a really small place, but a great day at the beach.  The coast line was very primitive and there was hardly any development here.  It was pretty just to watch from the boat.

Even though they day was different than we had planned, it was still a great day.
