Calypso Falls, Rocky Mountain National Park

The next morning, we headed out for our first hike.  Since it was cloudy and rainy/cold we decided to do a falls hike.  There is no use hiking up to a viewpoint only to see clouds, so this was a perfect choice and the rain mostly held off!  We did a 3.6 round trip hike to Calypso Falls.
I packed the wrong pants and once I changed into my boots I looked super silly, but who cares.  The family got a good laugh about it and so did I.  Hopefully I provided entertainment for those we saw that day on the trail, right?

For some reason, on most hikes, the kids flip flop in their moods.  One will be a super happy hiker and the other will be struggling big time.  On this hike up, Haley must have been feeling a little dehydrated (we were up near 9,000 feet) but she refused to eat or drink much...so she really struggled and was not a happy hiker.  At one point I was literally tugging her behind me as she held my hiking pole.  I typically get to listen to the grumblings of the sad/angry hiker (which ever kid it happens to be) and bring them back to happiness.  About the time they become happy again, it seems I inherit the other child who is now struggling.  It tries my patience sometimes, but luckily they eventually bounce back.  There are even big chunks of time where all 4 of us are happy hikers.  They call me rear admiral because I am playing motivator/therapist to the back of the pack, but I'll take it over Brian's job of being first because he gets to break down all the nasty spider webs on the trail! 

This time, once we reached Calypso Falls, Haley bounced back after a good snack and fluids and was enjoying herself the whole way back.  Success!!

After dinner in town, we headed back to play at the YMCA.

Science Center & Niagara Falls

Brian took this picture of a bridge competition that was going on at the conference center.  That is a lot of bridge players! While Brian was conferencing, we ventured out in our car to the Science Center across town.  It was awesome!  We loved the interactive displays and things to do.  It was way, way fun. This frog is the cutest, saddest, frog I've ever seen.  He was so adorable. Haley loves turtles! We tried some Pizza Pizza for lunch in the cafeteria.  Not bad! Aquarium & CN Tower

The next morning, we walked over to the Aquarium and beat the crowds.  It was a really cool aquarium - better than we expected.   Our favorite part was the tube that you could walk through.  This big sea creature was just sitting on the top of the tube.  It was so cool to check him out and to see all the sharks everywhere.  You really get a good look at all their crazy shark teeth when you are below them!   After lunch, we headed for an afternoon swim at the hotel pool. Then we headed over to St. Lawrence Market and met Brian for dinner.  I got fish and chips, Grant got homemade ravioli, Haley got chinese and Brian got perogies.  Everyone was happy!  It was fun to walk around the market. Dearborn, Michigan

On our way to another conference in Toronto, we stopped over outside of Detroit in Dearborn, Michigan - where the Ford headquarters are.  We stayed at the historic Dearborn Inn, which Henry Ford designed, and is now managed by Marriott, and went to the Henry Ford Museum.   There are tons of Ford factories, offices, test tracks and museums all over...but man, do they need to pave their roads!  They were full of potholes everywhere.  Poor Detroit/Dearborn.  Hopefully they can pave someday soon.   Brian and I had been to the museum before, but it has been over 20 years for me...and they had changed quite a bit.  It was fun to walk around and look at all of the neat cars, trains, airplanes and other equipment.    This is the original oscar myer hotdog mobile.   This is the actual bus - not a replica - of the bus in Montgomery Alabama where Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus.  Grant is sitting in her ...
