Toronto, Canada

The next morning we drove over the bridge into Canada!
My directions ended up not being the best, and without cell service we pulled out the old GPS and it saved the day.  Good ole Tom Tom.  We asked the check in person at the Residence Inn downtown Toronto if they might happen to have a roll away bed (so both kids didn't have to squish on the sofa bed) and he said he could actually upgrade us to a 2 bedroom suite for the same price!  We were super elated.  He said it would be a bit of a wait before it was cleaned (no problem) and gave us all Hagen Daaz ice cream bars for having to wait.  He was seriously super nice.  I think he must have been a manager.  At any rate, our after our room was ready he even called to make sure it was to our liking.  I told him it was awesome and thanked him again!  Marriott was seriously treating us right this trip!

The room was really an apartment.  It had 2 full bedrooms and 2 full baths and a full kitchen/living space.  It was the perfect place for the next 4 days and the kids loved having their own room...tv included.  The price listed on the back of the door was $1200/night!!  Yikes!


Once we were settled and Brian checked into his conference we roamed up to check out Graffiti Alley.  It was so fun to walk around the area and see all of the bright, fun colors.  It was the perfect place for taking pictures.














I honestly think the sweet Japanese man that just opened this Japanese candy store might have wanted to consider a different name!  

This brick over bagel place was pretty good and a nice stop for us weary walkers.
We all ordered crepes at another place for dinner.
Toronto is such a big city with so many huge apartment sky scrapers!  I just couldn't believe how many there were!  We enjoyed looking at Canadian money (it's really cool!) and seeing lots of things written in French.  It was fun walking around and getting to know our new surroundings for the week.

Science Center & Niagara Falls

Brian took this picture of a bridge competition that was going on at the conference center.  That is a lot of bridge players! While Brian was conferencing, we ventured out in our car to the Science Center across town.  It was awesome!  We loved the interactive displays and things to do.  It was way, way fun. This frog is the cutest, saddest, frog I've ever seen.  He was so adorable. Haley loves turtles! We tried some Pizza Pizza for lunch in the cafeteria.  Not bad! This wooden slide was awesome in their little forest.  Grant went flying down it like a rocket.  Once he didn't get his footing right to stop and he kept on flying.  It was sooo funny.  He had a little bum rash from the slide, but was okay. Aquarium & CN Tower

The next morning, we walked over to the Aquarium and beat the crowds.  It was a really cool aquarium - better than we expected.   Our favorite part was the tube that you could walk through.  This big sea creature was just sitting on the top of the tube.  It was so cool to check him out and to see all the sharks everywhere.  You really get a good look at all their crazy shark teeth when you are below them!   After lunch, we headed for an afternoon swim at the hotel pool. Then we headed over to St. Lawrence Market and met Brian for dinner.  I got fish and chips, Grant got homemade ravioli, Haley got chinese and Brian got perogies.  Everyone was happy!  It was fun to walk around the market. Dearborn, Michigan

On our way to another conference in Toronto, we stopped over outside of Detroit in Dearborn, Michigan - where the Ford headquarters are.  We stayed at the historic Dearborn Inn, which Henry Ford designed, and is now managed by Marriott, and went to the Henry Ford Museum.   There are tons of Ford factories, offices, test tracks and museums all over...but man, do they need to pave their roads!  They were full of potholes everywhere.  Poor Detroit/Dearborn.  Hopefully they can pave someday soon.   Brian and I had been to the museum before, but it has been over 20 years for me...and they had changed quite a bit.  It was fun to walk around and look at all of the neat cars, trains, airplanes and other equipment.    This is the original oscar myer hotdog mobile.   This is the actual bus - not a replica - of the bus in Montgomery Alabama where Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus.  Grant is sitting in her ...
