Judging

I am not a working mother, and I do not live in Connecticut anymore, but I am a big fan of ctworkingmoms.com.  Of course, I am a little biased since my sister in law, Michelle is the founder!  But seriously, I feel like a proud big sister.  She has created such a wonderful space of sisterhood, love and friendship on her website.  Michelle and her bloggers have made me think about things differently, given me pointers, made me laugh, and even cry.  The world is full of haters and it is nice to find a place that supports loving those around us, even if (and especially if) we don't even agree on certain things.  There is always a common ground and a place for love.

As a life-long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) I was always taught to not judge others.  You know - it's a basic Christian principle.  Trust me, plenty of people have not-so-nicely judged me for my beliefs, and it just doesn't leave you with a "let's be friends" type of feeling.  So, I'm all for leaving the judging to God.  

One of my church's leaders, Dieter Uchtdorf,  recently said it best:

"This topic of judging others could actually be taught in a two-word sermon. When it comes to hating, gossiping, ignoring, ridiculing, holding grudges, or wanting to cause harm, please apply the following:

Stop it!

It’s that simple. We simply have to stop judging others and replace judgmental thoughts and feelings with a heart full of love for God and His children."

It nearly broke my heart when I heard that some people think this whole judgement free motherhood stuff if a bunch of hooey.  I guess part of it is because I love Michelle and know her heart and intentions are good.  But mostly it made me sad because the irony of it all is I guess people like to judge others!  It must make them feel good.  I guess we all do it to a certain extent.  

I just hope that all 3 people that might read this will know that I stand with Michelle and Dieter Uchtdorf and that no matter how different yours and my views may be on any given topic, I will treat you with love and respect, and I hope you'll do the same for me.  You've got a friend in me!

Ang I love, love, love this! Thanks for writing about the judgement-free motherhood stuff. You are a big source of inspiration for me, I have long admired the way you parent your kids. Thanks for being the best sister-in-law ever!

Science Center & Niagara Falls

Brian took this picture of a bridge competition that was going on at the conference center.  That is a lot of bridge players! While Brian was conferencing, we ventured out in our car to the Science Center across town.  It was awesome!  We loved the interactive displays and things to do.  It was way, way fun. This frog is the cutest, saddest, frog I've ever seen.  He was so adorable. Haley loves turtles! We tried some Pizza Pizza for lunch in the cafeteria.  Not bad! This wooden slide was awesome in their little forest.  Grant went flying down it like a rocket.  Once he didn't get his footing right to stop and he kept on flying.  It was sooo funny.  He had a little bum rash from the slide, but was okay. Aquarium & CN Tower

The next morning, we walked over to the Aquarium and beat the crowds.  It was a really cool aquarium - better than we expected.   Our favorite part was the tube that you could walk through.  This big sea creature was just sitting on the top of the tube.  It was so cool to check him out and to see all the sharks everywhere.  You really get a good look at all their crazy shark teeth when you are below them!   After lunch, we headed for an afternoon swim at the hotel pool. Then we headed over to St. Lawrence Market and met Brian for dinner.  I got fish and chips, Grant got homemade ravioli, Haley got chinese and Brian got perogies.  Everyone was happy!  It was fun to walk around the market. Next, we headed over the CN tower as a family.  It's a very high way up! The glass floor was super crazy to walk on.  It made me so nervous!  Man, that is a long way down! ...

Dearborn, Michigan

On our way to another conference in Toronto, we stopped over outside of Detroit in Dearborn, Michigan - where the Ford headquarters are.  We stayed at the historic Dearborn Inn, which Henry Ford designed, and is now managed by Marriott, and went to the Henry Ford Museum.   There are tons of Ford factories, offices, test tracks and museums all over...but man, do they need to pave their roads!  They were full of potholes everywhere.  Poor Detroit/Dearborn.  Hopefully they can pave someday soon.   Brian and I had been to the museum before, but it has been over 20 years for me...and they had changed quite a bit.  It was fun to walk around and look at all of the neat cars, trains, airplanes and other equipment.    This is the original oscar myer hotdog mobile.   This is the actual bus - not a replica - of the bus in Montgomery Alabama where Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus.  Grant is sitting in her ...
