Vermont

The next day we drove straight west through Vermont, eating our way across the state.  It was a great day!  

First we stopped at Cabot cheese and did their little tour and ate lots and lots of cheese samples.  We wanted to buy lots of cheap cheese to take, but with no ice and many days of camping ahead we had to sadly only buy what we could eat right away.  I learned that I have a deep love for smoked bacon cheddar cheese, and the kids and Brian learned that they really love extra sharp cheddar.  
  Next, we traveled to Bragg Maple Syrup farm.  
Here is where they make their amazing syrup, the old fashioned way.  We tasted the 4 different kinds of syrup and learned that Grant and I like extra dark and Brian and Haley like extra light.  We also learned that the Costco organic maple syrup we've been eating is not nearly as tasty as Bragg Farm's syrup.  Too bad we've already eaten a lot of what we brought home with us!  We also tried their yummy maple syrup soft serve ice cream.  
 Next stop was the Ben and Jerry's factory tour.  It was a little more commercial, but still fun.

 We strolled through their flavor graveyard.  It was so creative.
 

 At some point we saw a sign for an apple orchard and cider mill, so of coarse we stopped there too and drank lots of cider and bought cider donuts.  It was just the right thing to do.
   We eventually found our way to our campground on Grand Isle in the middle of Lake Champlain.  It was such a beautiful lake full of great skipping rocks and fresh water clams.

 We were grateful for the lean to since a storm came through.  Brian tried to dry out the fire pit, but we finally abandoned it and got a nice fire going outside of the pit. 
 
 
 As the storm went over onto the other side of the lake we saw the prettiest rainbow that I have honestly ever seen (it was actually a double rainbow.)  It was so bright and vividly showed every single color.  It was such a beautiful ending to a great day in Vermont.

Wow--those are amazing rainbow photos. What fun stuff in Vermont!! I always meant to go there when we lived in NY but never did. (It would have required driving the length of NY on that stupid tollway... LOL)

Brian took this picture of a bridge competition that was going on at the conference center.  That is a lot of bridge players! While Brian was conferencing, we ventured out in our car to the Science Center across town.  It was awesome!  We loved the interactive displays and things to do.  It was way, way fun. This frog is the cutest, saddest, frog I've ever seen.  He was so adorable. Haley loves turtles! We tried some Pizza Pizza for lunch in the cafeteria.  Not bad! Aquarium & CN Tower

The next morning, we walked over to the Aquarium and beat the crowds.  It was a really cool aquarium - better than we expected.   Our favorite part was the tube that you could walk through.  This big sea creature was just sitting on the top of the tube.  It was so cool to check him out and to see all the sharks everywhere.  You really get a good look at all their crazy shark teeth when you are below them!   After lunch, we headed for an afternoon swim at the hotel pool. Then we headed over to St. Lawrence Market and met Brian for dinner.  I got fish and chips, Grant got homemade ravioli, Haley got chinese and Brian got perogies.  Everyone was happy!  It was fun to walk around the market. Dearborn, Michigan

On our way to another conference in Toronto, we stopped over outside of Detroit in Dearborn, Michigan - where the Ford headquarters are.  We stayed at the historic Dearborn Inn, which Henry Ford designed, and is now managed by Marriott, and went to the Henry Ford Museum.   There are tons of Ford factories, offices, test tracks and museums all over...but man, do they need to pave their roads!  They were full of potholes everywhere.  Poor Detroit/Dearborn.  Hopefully they can pave someday soon.   Brian and I had been to the museum before, but it has been over 20 years for me...and they had changed quite a bit.  It was fun to walk around and look at all of the neat cars, trains, airplanes and other equipment.    This is the original oscar myer hotdog mobile.   This is the actual bus - not a replica - of the bus in Montgomery Alabama where Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus.  Grant is sitting in her ...
