Ohio

Today, happiness returned to our family!  It may or may not have been because we left NY state.  Haha.  We drove south, to our campground located right on Lake Erie.  It was such a pretty beach.  We set up camp and headed out to see some sites...and to eat at a Wendy's since we didn't get to yesterday.  


 We had a great time visiting historic Kirtland and seeing the church sites there.  I grew up only 4 hours from here and have been many times, but not in the last 20 years or so.  It was a great visit and we had great tour guides at all the sites.  So much of church history is also my family history, so it is always so powerful for me to visualize my family members living here during that time.  I love visiting all church sites, but Kirtland is always one of my favorites.  
 
 Next, we headed back to the beach for a chilly swim.  I had fun watching them and opted not to get in.

 
 
 Back at the camp site we taught Grant how to build his own fire.  He did a great job!  I'm always a tee-pee fan versus log cabin, and his tee pee was successful!



 Oddly enough, this was the last night of our trip, but the first night we used our tent!  
The next morning we drove to the Air Force National Museum in Dayton, Ohio.  Man, this place was awesome.  It is four huge hangars full of historic aviation from all periods of time/wars.  They even have space stuff and presidential airplanes.  This is like the DC air and space times 100....and free!  What's not to love?
 I had seen a show about this brave little pigeon and was so happy to see him honored here!  He was an amazing WWII homing pigeon that successfully carried messages across war lines, saving many lives and relaying important messages.  You should google him!  He is super cool.




Brian could have spent 5 days in there, but by hangar three, Haley was getting grouchy, so we sped things along and drove the final 3 hours home. 
It was a long two weeks, full of so many cool sites, visits with loved ones, and memories to last a lifetime!  New England will always have a part of my heart!  Although Kentucky is home, we love, love love to visit New England!  So glad I married a New England boy, and grateful our kids love crazy road trip adventures as much as we do!  What a great way to kick off summer!

I had to laugh when you said that happiness returned after you left NY. I haven't read your NY post yet, but I had to smile because happiness returned to me after I left NY, too. Grumpy, dark place. Anyway, this Ohio part looks super amazing. I love the church history sites, too. And that was one amazing tent!

Science Center & Niagara Falls

Brian took this picture of a bridge competition that was going on at the conference center.  That is a lot of bridge players! While Brian was conferencing, we ventured out in our car to the Science Center across town.  It was awesome!  We loved the interactive displays and things to do.  It was way, way fun. This frog is the cutest, saddest, frog I've ever seen.  He was so adorable. Haley loves turtles! We tried some Pizza Pizza for lunch in the cafeteria.  Not bad! This wooden slide was awesome in their little forest.  Grant went flying down it like a rocket.  Once he didn't get his footing right to stop and he kept on flying.  It was sooo funny.  He had a little bum rash from the slide, but was okay. Life is Expensive

This black friday I had my hopes set on this: But what I got instead was this: Cool, right?  Well - yes, and no.  I do really, really love our new Toyota Rav4, but was geared up to spend around $800 this week, not so much the more than $800 a new car costs.  I should also mention that I have been saving for the past 3 months for my big tv purchase and had finally saved $750 this week when our money pit Buick Rendezvous finally decided enough was enough and decided it only wanted to drive to Clarksburg West Virginia, not Morgantown...another hour down the road.  So needless to say there will be no big fancy tv in my house this Christmas season, (boo hoo hoo) but hey - I can live without a tv, but I can't live without a car. As sad as I am at the loss of my near tv purchase (and all of my financial savings!)
