Snowmageddon

I seriously loved last week.  It was heaven!  I even had bronchitis and I still loved it!  On Sunday night a mega storm rolled our way and shut down the town for a solid week.  It was the most snow we've gotten in 15 years and the coldest temperatures in 20 years.  It was epic!  We love this stuff.  

I didn't know it at the time, but our family seriously needed a week to be snowed in.  It was such a blessing!  Even the University was closed 4 days and so Brian worked from home most days.  I think all of us (especially Brian) had been going on all cylinders for the past 6 months and we were all worn out without even realizing it.  This week gave us a all a chance to chill out, get lots of sleep, read, play, cook and eat together, and play in all of that awesome snow!    

By the end of the week we felt totally rejuvenated, healthy, relaxed and closer than before.  We were all ready to get back on a regular schedule the new week, but that had to have been the best unexpected staycation I've ever had!  Thank you mother nature!

 Brian built another epic snow igloo.  This one was huge - with 2 entrances and a back porch.  I could have fit in there too.  But at this point I only ventured outdoors to take pictures and then go back inside an cough out my lungs.  

 


This guy loves snow even more than me.  He and his church buddies shoveled out 20 driveways and sidewalks in one night.  Then he spent the next day digging out all the cars that were stuck on our road and helping neighbors do their driveways.  At one point the whole cul-de-sac was out shoveling the road to get in and out.  He loves to shovel!  





 By the end of the week, I was feeling better (thank goodness for antibiotics!) and felt up for a snow walk.  It was so pretty outside.  I just love snow walks, especially at night.

This is what was hard about living in NY. We got pounded with snow and freezing temperatures constantly, so life just went on. I really missed snow days!! I am a firm believer in snow days. Big storms are God's way of staying, "Hey, stay home with your family for a few days." It's AWESOME. I love these photos!! What a great time! :)

Brian took this picture of a bridge competition that was going on at the conference center.  That is a lot of bridge players! While Brian was conferencing, we ventured out in our car to the Science Center across town.  It was awesome!  We loved the interactive displays and things to do.  It was way, way fun. This frog is the cutest, saddest, frog I've ever seen.  He was so adorable. Haley loves turtles! We tried some Pizza Pizza for lunch in the cafeteria.  Not bad! This wooden slide was awesome in their little forest.  Grant went flying down it like a rocket.  Once he didn't get his footing right to stop and he kept on flying.  It was sooo funny.  He had a little bum rash from the slide, but was okay. Aquarium & CN Tower

The next morning, we walked over to the Aquarium and beat the crowds.  It was a really cool aquarium - better than we expected.   Our favorite part was the tube that you could walk through.  This big sea creature was just sitting on the top of the tube.  It was so cool to check him out and to see all the sharks everywhere.  You really get a good look at all their crazy shark teeth when you are below them!   After lunch, we headed for an afternoon swim at the hotel pool. Then we headed over to St. Lawrence Market and met Brian for dinner.  I got fish and chips, Grant got homemade ravioli, Haley got chinese and Brian got perogies.  Everyone was happy!  It was fun to walk around the market. Dearborn, Michigan

On our way to another conference in Toronto, we stopped over outside of Detroit in Dearborn, Michigan - where the Ford headquarters are.  We stayed at the historic Dearborn Inn, which Henry Ford designed, and is now managed by Marriott, and went to the Henry Ford Museum.   There are tons of Ford factories, offices, test tracks and museums all over...but man, do they need to pave their roads!  They were full of potholes everywhere.  Poor Detroit/Dearborn.  Hopefully they can pave someday soon.   Brian and I had been to the museum before, but it has been over 20 years for me...and they had changed quite a bit.  It was fun to walk around and look at all of the neat cars, trains, airplanes and other equipment.    This is the original oscar myer hotdog mobile.   This is the actual bus - not a replica - of the bus in Montgomery Alabama where Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus.  Grant is sitting in her ...
